As a personal trainer I found it very informitave. It gave me the opertunity to look at things from a different perspective and a way to help clients with their nutritional and weight loss needs. A great read and excellent referance book.
5 Stars This Book Is SOOO Worth It!!!!!
I am a huge fan of Tom Venuto’s BFFM. So when I heard he was writing another book, it was anxiouxly awaited. And, of course, the man did not disappoint!
One of the great things was that Tom said right up front that this was a book that pretty much breaks it down as to why people overeat, not train, and have trouble losing weight. It was not geared toward the people who used BFFM although as one who has, you STILL could learn from it AND review the things your already knew or thought you knew.
One thing that struck me was page 45 where he says about people who are in the right mindset use the numbers on the scale as feedback, NOT to beat themselves up. When those people look in the mirror they see what they are going to be. That is the key to it all, how you think. Then you must take action and put it all in practice. And that’s the magic of it all. Tom shows you that YOU have the power to do this and have all along! It’s all about choice.
For the person who is running out of hope and is ready to give up and accept being fat and out of shape as “inevitable, genetics, I’ve tried everything, it’s my age, etc etc” DONT!!!! Before you make that decision, pick up this book and give it an honest read.You will not only see changes in your eating and exercise, but you will actually FEEL the changes in yourself. Stay true to course, commit, follow it, and I guarantee you will see your work pay off! Then pat yourself on the back for making the best decision of your life! Now go get it!!!
5 Stars The best out there!
This book is absolutely the best book I have ever read about planning and living a healthy life. What really sets it apart is Tom’s time and energy going beyond just counting calories and beyond exercise. All important factors of course, but what about the mental reasons we don’t do what we know we should? How can I maintain my weight and not go back to my old ways? Venuto goes into great depth with planning, dealing with temptations, and mentally training your mind to create your body. This simply is the best “formula” for dealing with all angles of a complete healthy life style. This isn’t a quick fix program. This is a solid, brilliantly composed program that incorporates everything needed to make your life healthy and positive.
3 Stars well written, but nothing really new here
If you’ve never read anything about eating right, fitness, or visualization, you’ll love this book, because it presents a complete picture of all the factors that go into being slim and fit. If you HAVE read much in these areas, you won’t find anything at all new. I was surprised, after hearing all the praise for Tom’s online book, to find this book so mundane. It’s quite well written, but I guess I expected more innovative ideas. Certainly it’s great to have a common sense approach to nutrition/fitness, as opposed to the myriad books that fix on one idea and say it’s the solution (don’t eat carbs! don’t eat fat! etc.), just to be new and different and sell, but if you read much about diet and fitness you will find this just a retread.

Tom’s book is a mine of helpful and practical guidance. His style of writing is one that makes it easy to read and makes one want to continue reading. I have accessed his website for help but now I have all I need in my hands.
