Understand How To Exercise To Lose Weight

January 18th, 2010

 Powered by Max Banner Ads

Anyone who is serious about losing weight needs to understand that you must exercise to lose weight. Diet alone will not do it.

The question then is: What kind of exercise and how much?

It’s significant to understand that there are many health benefits from physical activity even if you do not lose weight. Imagine having less abdominal fat and lower blood pressure.

Through proper exercise you can improve the ratio of good blood fats to bad ones and can increase protection from heart disease and cardiovascular diseases.

In short with proper exercise you’ll feel better and increase your chances for a longer life. The weight loss is just another benefit!

An exercise program must be something that continues forever and not for just a few weeks or months. But don’t worry. This doesn’t mean you have to follow a rigid exercise plan and I constantly. It just means that it needs to be a consistent element in your life.

The challenge with weight loss exercising is:

- determining how much we need to do for weight loss purposes.

- arriving at the place where we truly enjoy physical weight loss activities.

There needs to be a certain level of intensity involved in the activity you are doing if you want to actually lose weight through exercising. Simply taking the dog out for a 30 minute walk isn’t going to do much good for weight loss purposes. It is better than doing nothing at all though.

You may have heard that walking 10,000 steps per day is a reasonable goal to shoot for. A good brisk walk of 30-60 minutes will accomplish that.

However to really lose weight through exercise you must do more than aerobic exercising. At some point you’ll need to add resistance training or some kind of weight lifting.

You actually burn 50 more calories per day with muscle than you do with fat. So you must begin to replace your body fat with muscle. You can only do that through some type of weight program.

You can even accomplish this without a home gym or weight set. Push ups are a great form of resistance training. Start slowly and gradually build to as many as you can do each day. Of course if you can go to a gym 3 days a week do it.

Making it fun is the best way to exercise to lose weight. Exercise with someone. Go dancing. Ride a bike. Play tennis. The more you do the better.

Fitness Tips For Working Out At Home

December 29th, 2009

People have different tastes and preferences and the gym is no exception. While there are some who feel like they just can’t workout at the gym, some on the other hand are more productive at home. For whichever reason that you prefer the comfort of your home over the gym, well here are some exercises that are a must for your home gym training.

The gym may have more equipment than what your home gym has but this doesn’t mean that working out at home won’t be effective. Learn to make the best with what you have at the moment.

Just as you require having a training program at the gym, you also require one especially now that you may not have your trainer present or the same number of equipment. Divide the workouts into the different muscle groups to ensure that your training is all round and that you don’t end up concentrating on only one muscle group and neglecting the rest. It’s quite possible for you to use the weights you have to pump your biceps and forget that your calves’ also need to be worked out.

Squats can be done without the use of any equipment and are a good exercise for your quads. However be careful as it is very easy to injure yourself especially when you hoist a bar on over your head and start doing them. Lunges are much safer as compared to squats, not only dose it work out your quads but your hamstrings as well. Use dumbbells when doing our lunges.

For your calves, you will do calf raises with dumbbells. Don’t overdo this exercise because the calves are actively involved in other exercises as well. For the chest muscles, you can either do barbell bench presses or dumbbell presses. You should do them hand in hand with the pushups which are also a great exercise for the chest muscles.

The biceps can very easily be worked out because you don’t need as much equipment as the rest of the muscle groups do. You can do barbell curls, hammer curls, dumbbell curls, reverse curls among the other one million exercises for biceps. As for the triceps, you can hit them with lying triceps extensions. You only need a barbell and a bench for this exercise. For the shoulders you can do barbell military presses, side lateral raises and Arnold presses.

Cardiovascular exercises can be done at the comfort of your home with or without equipment. The only thing you need when jogging in the morning are comfortable running shoes and an iPod that’s loaded with all your favorite songs. If you can afford a treadmill then good for you especially during winter when going outside isn’t a hot cup of tea.

The basic equipment that you can’t do without are free weights, a bench, floor mats, dip bars, chin bars among others. If you can afford to go all out then it will be worth your money. Remember, investing in a good home gym is just as important as investing in your family’s health insurance.

How to Select the Best Fitness Machines For Gym at Home

December 23rd, 2009

You finally convinced the wife into letting you have your own fitness machines, but now you have to figure out what the best fitness machines for gym at home are going to be. There is quite a bit to consider and we are going to try and make the process a little bit easier. Let’s take a quick look at some concerns before we start shopping around for the equipment.

The first consideration is going to be how much space is available for the home gym. If the room that is used is nothing more than a small bedroom, the equipment will more than likely have to serve multiple purposes. There are quite a few great companies that make equipment that fit right into this category.

The next consideration is budget. When you know how much space is available, a general idea of how much can fit is pretty easy to figure out. Knowing how much money can be devoted to each piece of equipment will establish where to look and what to look at. While we will still be looking to save money, it helps to know what our maximum commitment is going to be.

Your own health is also a major factor because it will decide a lot of the types of equipment that can be used. For instance, someone that has recently had a spinal fusion will not be lifting free weights. They will be interested in more low impact workouts that will not put pressure on their backs. They would probably benefit more from a recumbent bike instead of a standard exercise bike.

There are some other things that will go into the exercise room that will also have to be considered and will come right out of your budget. Is there going to be a TV mounted on the wall? Do you want to have a water cooler installed? Do mirrors have to be put up on the walls? They seem like small things, but they will take away from the money that can be spent on the equipment.

Once all of these issues are settled, it is time to find the best equipment for your needs. The two options that are going to be available are new and used equipment. When looking at new equipment, the Internet will be a useful tool for comparison shopping. Whatever you do, don’t jump at the first piece of machinery that you find because you think it is neat. Continue to shop to make sure that you are getting the best deal.

A lot of times, used equipment that is in very good shape can be had for a fraction of the cost. Again, the Internet can point you in the right direction as many gyms will sell their equipment off through auction sites or online retailers who take a small commission. However, it may be best to actually see the equipment to make sure it is still in acceptable condition.

Putting together a home gym can be quite a challenge, but also a lot of fun. After all, there will no longer expensive membership dues and you will never have to wait to use a piece of equipment again. However, the flip side is that all of the excuses to not work out go right out the window so make sure you are committed to this project before spending all of that money on something that turns into a fancy coat rack.

Health and Beauty Tips To Keep You Looking Young!

August 13th, 2009

Our body is the greatest instrument we will ever own and it is truly an amazing creation. However, the way in which we care for and look after it is up to us so it is important that we get it right from the start. Sadly, a lot of the time we seem to fall short of this but remember it is never too late to make the changes we need to achieve optimum health; all you need is a little point in the right direction – so where does this direction take us?

It leads you down a path that is all about looking after your body from the inside out. If you can take control of your body on the inside, you should have no problem keeping it looking healthy and young on the outside. One of the main ways in which you can achieve this is through exercise; you basically need to move more! Even the slightest changes can make all the difference; for example, choose to climb stairs as opposed to using escalators or elevators. Another example comes in the form of walking your dog, gardening, or walking to the shops as opposed to driving. Combine these simple changes with an exercise routine and you will keep your body in shape while reducing your risk of serious illness, such as heart disease.

Exercise doesn’t mean you have to join an expensive gym, it simply means setting aside 30 minutes a day to perform an exercise program in order to burn fat and tone your body. You could do this by following an exercise DVD or you could get some simple home gym and exercise equipment. By doing 30 minutes a day, you will soon notice a difference to your overall health and well being, but that’s not it. Exercise is also powerful when it comes to improving your skin due to the fact it tones your body. This will make your skin appear vibrant and glowing. However, to truly appreciate the effects brought about through exercise you also need to take on board a healthy eating routine.

Healthy food and nutrition matters when it comes to body care, this is because eating healthy is crucial. By cutting out junk food and avoiding aspects such as fried food, you will feel better about yourself for the fact you will have more energy; you will also be reducing your risk of developing serious health issues. Healthy food is also an aspect that can help slow down the aging process; healthy food will keep your skin in great condition, which will minimize wrinkles and fine lines, etc.

Talking about reducing the aging process, smoking is one of the most harmful substances when it comes to premature aging of your skin. Cigarettes make your skin appear dull and increase your risk of developing wrinkles at an earlier stage in your life. Quitting smoking not only improves the look and feel of your skin but it also dramatically decreases your risk of cancer, lung disease, and heart problems.

The more you look after your body, the more it will look after you. By following the above health and beauty tips, you are preventing your body from developing disease and aging prematurely. You are allowing your body to appear healthier and younger, thus, making your body stronger and more able to fight off aspects such as infection, so start making changes today and you will be amazed at how quickly you feel better.

How to Get the Cheapest and Best Personal Fitness Trainer Around

May 30th, 2009

One of the great things about going to a gym to work out is that there is always someone there to talk to. You can commiserate with another gym member about how hard it was to get motivated to get out the door that morning, or you can ask someone to check your form on a machine. Often, a gym is a great place to find a workout buddy who you can partner up with. Having a buddy to work out with can help increase your motivation and your determination to continue – even when you do not feel like it!

When you work out at home, you are most often working out alone. It can be hard to find the motivation every day to follow through and get to your home gym. It can be really easy to find excuse after excuse about why you just cannot work out that day. One way to counteract that is to make your fitness goals visible to your partner and your family. If you partner knows you are scheduled to work out four days a week, he can check up on you. He can ask you about your workout and support you.

Another way to keep yourself motivated is to use fitness DVD’s. Seeing a trainer’s face on the TV and hearing his or her voice can give you that push you might be lacking that day. A trainer’s words of encouragement and her enthusiasm might push you to work a little bit harder that day. While this is not quite personal interaction, working out with a DVD can truly help increase your motivation and your perseverance. You will be less inclined to quit your workout early if you are working out with a DVD.

If you are struggling a bit with motivation or if you find yourself lacking the ability to add some variety to your home work out, it might be time to hire a personal trainer. Working with a trainer can be beneficial in a few key ways. A personal trainer can work with you on your fitness goals and can help you develop a home work out to meet those goals. You can decide whether to meet with your trainer weekly, daily, or even monthly. Whatever interval you choose, you will know that meeting is coming up and you will work hard to meet your fitness goals for that trainer meeting.

Working with a trainer can help you develop and keep your fitness goals. A trainer can help you stay focused and motivated and can help you learn new fitness routines. A trainer can also help you monitor your form. Even if it is just once a month, investing in a personal trainer to enhance your home workouts can be money well spent.

But remember a personal trainer does not have to be someone you meet with face to face. Using a DVD with a professional fitness expert teaching you the exercises can be just as effective. Some people even prefer someone on DVD, that way you can do your exercises on your schedule and not their schedule.
