A Healthy Diabetes Menu – No Compromise in the Level of Nutrients

August 28th, 2009

The right food is extremely vital when someone is found diabetic. Most of us come across this disease on a regular basis in our lives. Diabetes when left unnoticed can lead to complications related to heart, kidneys, nerves and eyes. There should be a proper guidance from dietician or endocrinologist to tackle diabetes. With a change in the life style along with a proper diabetes menu, the side effects can be scaled down to a minimal level.

Our body needs to have a balanced diet to obtain the various types of nutrients. The key factor is to have a count on each and every calorie you intake. The diabetic menu intaken should contain less sugar content and that never means one has to eliminate sugar totally from his daily diet. Eating limited or scarce amount of sugar content is the best for a diabetic person.  These types of diets should have protein and fiber content on a higher scale when compared with other nutrients. Proteins and fiber help in controlling the sugar content in the human body.

In a balanced diabetic menu, one has to split these calories in a proper proportion so that energy levels remain constant throughout the day. A healthy breakfast can include a fruit, a glass of milk, two slices of bread or any form of carbohydrates, a cup of cereals and an egg. Lunch comprises of a small piece of lean meat, rice or bread and lots of green vegetables. An ideal dinner would include a glass of milk, green salad, a slice of bread and a piece of lean meat or fish. Before getting into any diet, a consultation with a dietician is always the best!

At the end of this article, I’d like to share cool website with more information on Diabetes Menu. Visit for more details.

Fitness Routines in Summer

June 3rd, 2009

After a long winter full of excuses as to why we haven’t worked out, and all the reasons for putting on a few extra pounds such as the holidays, we look forward to summer.

However this is not always the case, summertime can be a sneaky season, a lazy season. We do tend to get outside more in the summer, but we also do other things that sabotage our fitness routine.

For example:

* Lighting up the barbeque and cracking a cold beer – the average light beer has 110 calories and 7g of carbohydrates. Calories can get up there quickly.

* Having family over for a potluck or picnic ? while it is usually healthier to eat at home, piling up a plate of potato salad, chips and a loaded hamburger you can come close to meeting your daily calorie needs in one setting.

* Late nights in the nice weather – we tend to stay up later in the summer and enjoy a lawn chair on the deck, once again the temptation arises to have a cold beverage, even if you choose a soda, the sugar content can be as much 9 teaspoons in one can. You could choose to have a diet soda, but diet drinks have been linked to all kinds of health problems and have been tagged as causing people to drink more because of the empty calories.

* Using the heat as an excuse – getting out at the beginning of summer in for fitness such as relaxing walks or a calorie burning run is a great way to exercise and most of us enjoy it – until the weather gets hot, 85 – 90 degrees, and suddenly choosing to sunbathe is a much better option. Those warm days can quickly add up and then before you realize it, you have gone a couple of weeks without exercise.

* Lack of Sleep- with such long days, most people stay up later in the summer and get up earlier, sometimes cutting their 8 hours of sleep to 6 or less. Not getting enough sleep has, in recent years, become a major finding in gaining weight. People who slept 5 hours per night were 32% more likely to experience major weight gain (an increase of 33 pounds or more) and 15% more likely to become obese.

Keeping Your Weight in Check Knowing is half the battle, or so they say. By reminding yourself daily to eat well and get in a bit of exercise, you can at least maintain your weight throughout the summer. And if you are looking to lose weight, the heat can actually be a great tool, working up a sweat burns more calories and running in the sun can definitely raise your sweat level. Just remember to drink plenty of water as to not become dehydrated.

It is the simple things that we don?t think about that can creep up and ruin our goals to be healthy, but at the same time it can be those simple things, those small changes that can keep us on the right track.

Of course getting to the gym and sticking to your summertime fitness routine is always one of the best options. Accountability and Fitness health go with one another.

Colon Cleansing And Detox Diets – Live A Healthy Life With Colon Detox

May 5th, 2009

In today’s modern lifestyle, most people are not eating enough fresh fruits and vegetables resulting in lack of fiber. On top of that we are eating more and more junk foods that have a lot of fat and sugar content. All these become trapped in our colons and turn into toxins over time. Due to the lack of fiber, our body is unable to get rid of toxins that eventually find way into our bloodstream and travel to the important organs like heart, liver and kidneys. Therefore, can cause serious illnesses.

When it comes to colon cleansing and detox diets, there are various recipes and products available. You can get colon cleansing in drink, tea or tablet form. The popular kind is perhaps the Lemonade Diet which requires you to drink liquids only without any solid food for a few days. There are many people use this diet to lose weight as well.

Whatever recipes you use, the key ingredient for body detox is water. In addition to water, make sure you include plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables in your diets as well. Focus on using antioxidants in your diet. For example, drinking juice from pomegranates – which is one of nature’s most powerful antioxidants – is the perfect solution for body detox all year long.

You should also eat foods that are high in vitamins and minerals and low in fat. Eating at least seven fruits and vegetables a day will help you detoxify your system. As part of your healthy lifestyle, other good foods you want to include are fish, blueberries, cranberries and leafy greens.

Organic foods can also be a great alternative for long-term health as they are made without artificial hormones and chemicals hence it’s a good way to keep your body clear of impurities.

It goes without saying that exercise is also very important as it not only can get you in good shape and burn calories, but also help to sweat out toxins.

Last but not least, stay away from unhealthy habits such as smoking, drinking excessive alcohol, taking drugs that can lead to toxins entering your body. Unhealthy habits will increase the risk of serious illnesses and lower the quality of your life. It not only can affect you negatively but also the people around you.

If you have healthy body, colon cleansing and body detox will happen naturally. Once you get into the habit of naturally cleansing your body, you will start to feel healthier and look better. Your entire body will respond to natural detoxification. So, choose the healthy way and live happily!
